Why 20/20 Vision is A Mediocre Goal for 2020

You may have been fooled like I was. I always thought 20/20 vision referred to perfect vision,

but that’s not true…

20/20 vision is actually considered “normal vision.” It’s a test that optometrists give you to measure your visual acuity (clarity and sharpness of your vision) to see letters at a distance of 20 feet compared to other people.

In order for us to have better than 20/20 vision for 2020, we just need to have above normal vision…. to see things better than most.

Most people see things the way they are, through the lens of their experiences, personality, core values and culture. But we can have an elevated God perspective. Our 2020 vision can be based on our faith, not on what we naturally see or experience.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

I’m sure you’ve heard it said that hindsight is 2020, meaning we can see clearly looking back on situations what we should’ve done.

But God knows the end from the beginning. He is he Alpha and Omega, the first and the last.

The #1 thing you can do to have better than 20/20 vision is to seek God this year, trust Him and He will direct your path. (Proverbs 3:1-12) God has a vision for your life, and He wants you to too!

Here are 3 more tips for a better than 20/20 vision in 2020:

2. Allow the lessons from yesterday to give you peace for today and propel your future. What did you learn last year? Who are the people who have been there for you, supporting you? What surprised you about 2019? How do you see God building on the things of 2019 in 2020?

3. Instead of taking a step back, take a step up to look at your situation from an elevated perspective. (Proverbs 8:1-2) If you were looking down at your life and season from above where you could see the big picture, what’s ahead, behind and beside you, what do you notice when you aren’t in the thick of it all? If you’re friend was in your shoes, what advice, warning or encouragement would you offer them?

4. Focus on the little simple steps towards your 2020 goals, instead of the seemingly big gap between where you are today and where you want to be in the future. Break your goals down into mini-goals and simple steps that can be accomplished daily, weekly or monthly. Too many people get overwhelmed and discouraged and quit before they ever really start. If you need to lose 30 pounds, the first step may be a 10 minute walk and 1 smart food choice a meal. You will be encouraged by quick wins and motivated to continue and do more. Before you know it, you will have lost 1, 2 or 3 pounds… well on your way towards a lifestyle change and big goal accomplished.

No matter what your hopes and desires are for this year, may your vision be faith-focused. Instead of focusing on what is in the natural, look at your life through God’s perspective for a better than 20/20 vision in 2020.
